The history of LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans began with the opening of the Medical School in 1931. A unique component of the LSU System, it is Louisiana’s largest academic health sciences center. LSUHSC New Orleans educates the majority of the state’s health professionals and health professions faculty through its six schools: Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Allied Health Professions, Graduate Studies and Public Health. And the Center’s eleven Centers of Excellence enable basic researchers and clinical investigators to combine resources, creating an environment that has lead to increased research success.
